The Conservative movement has no good candidate in the 2008 Presidential Election.
All hope is not lost, however.
In order to gain momentum, a campaign and its associated followers need a really good slogan. A stirring verbal call-to-arms, designed to motivate its members and galvanize the movement to action. I hereby nominate the following as the slogan for Republicans and other conservatives during the 2008 Presidential election season:
Election 2008: FINDING THE LESSER WEEVIL!
For those not familiar, a weevil looks something like this:

This isn’t necessarily the smallest or lightest of the weevil family, but it does bear a marked resemblance to at least one of the current presidential candiates. This weevil’s nose is a little longer, which means the candidate in question does, from a purely proboscis-oriented viewpoint, represent “the lesser weevil” for purposes of the Presidential campaign.
In light of this, I recommend accepting said candidate as the “lesser weevil,” at least until an even lesser weevil presents itself.

As Jerry Pournelle repeatedly said this week after Romney bailed,

We can always pray for Juan MexiCain’s faux “Damascas road” experience in California (where he promised to “build the fence” and seriously address removing “criminal” illegal aliens–although he didn’t use the term “illegal aliens” which is revealing, perhaps–before re-proposing “immigration reform”) to become a genuine Damascas road experience. Among other things he needs to seriously reform.
