Eight Plus Five Equals: Tagged

Filed under: MemeYaks — Random Yak @ 1:39 pm on November 16, 2007

David at third world county tagged me with the “eight random things” meme.  Granted, he added five more, thereby creating a meme/T.13 twofer, but in my case eight will probably do.

The rules of the meme:

  • When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. (check)
  • Then post the rules before your list, (check) and list eight random things about yourself. (working on it…bear with me…)
  • At the end of the post, you must tag and link to eight other people.
  • Eight Random Things About The Random Yak:

    1.  I woke up this morning with a kitten on my head.  (Literally.)

    2.  This wasn’t the first time.

    3.  I like to eat ice cream in the snow.  (Preferably with a cup of coffee.)

    4.  Although I’d like to have a more dignified choice, my favorite hymn is: “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” and I have been known to play it more than ten times in a row.  (I have also been known to sing along, and did so even before I knew all the words.)

    5.  I frequently respond to the question “would you like cream for your coffee?” with, “Just leave the cow.”  (Others frequently don’t realize that I mean it.)

    6.  Occasionally, I dream in Chinese.  (Which might not be strange if I was Chinese, but I’m Danish.)

    7.  I have the nicest rose garden on the street.  (Also the best collection of dandelions and some world-class crabgrass.)

    8.  My favorite flavors of ice cream are mint-chip and coffee-chip, depending on mood and availability.

Now for the taggees.  Let’s hear 8 random facts about:

    1. egads a meme!..LOL..will get right on it..soon as I have 2 seconds to rub together!:)

    4. Oh. Dear. I must have been neglecting Angel, recently, cos I tagged her as well… and all I got outa it was an ecard. ;-)

“3. I like to eat ice cream in the snow. (Preferably with a cup of coffee.)” Complete the picture. BEER ice cream in the snow with coffee… :-)

“my favorite hymn is: “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”” Close one for me, although–despite the pagan lyrics–I prefer the musical theme as embedded in Beethoven’s 9th. The lyrics in the hymn, though genuinely celebratory of God’s glory and expressive of adoration, simply aren’t up to a marriage with the tune, let alone the rest of the symphonic work it evokes. Still, I like it a great deal (perhaps as much for the celebration–unconscious or not–of God’s creative power as shown in His creature–Beethoven–in the symphonic work it evokes as anything in the lyrics).

No matter how marred the imago dei, when any man–consciously or not–shows forth God’s creative nature so creatively, so beautifully, he shows forth his Creator.

BTW, despite its slighly cheezy tune and less than wonderfully artistic lyrics, one of my very favs (not a hymn but a genuine Gospel tune) is, “Rescue the Perishing”–and that primarily for the verse that reads, “Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter/Feelings lie buried that grace can restore/Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness/Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.”

And yes, I like playing that one (on my slightly crumpled lil 1929 Bach Strad). In fact, on that verse I generally play the first two lines in the relative minor, then transpose up a step and into a major key for the last two lines. Just did it that way one day and it “sang” for me.

As for the “An Freude” theme, well, for some strange reason I prefer to play that on a woodwind, and if I have no other handy, I’ll just sometimes pick up one of the (soprano) recorders laying around and play it on that, from time to time (and, confession: I’ve sold my flute and my sax and my clarinet is in pieces–many–so it’s either a recorder or my Wonder Woman’s oboe, and I’m a little less facile with her onoe than with a recorder).

    11. I have complied with the rules of your meme–it was fun! I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t tag anyone. I really don’t “know” a lot of bloggers well enough to tag them, and some of the ones I do have requested “no memes.” Thanks again for asking me to play!
