Transformers Opening Day Linkfest and OTP

Filed under: Random Linkfests — Random Yak @ 9:53 am on July 2, 2007

The Transformers movie opens today. The Random Spouse and I already have tickets for the 8 p.m. show. And no, I’m not going for the storyline. I have no illusions about the acting, the plot or the likelihood that the film will be overlooked by the Oscar committee – but this much I do know:

1. There will be big, coolrobots. (I saw the trailer. REALLY BIG ROBOTS. WOO!)

2. The big, cool robots willhave guns, rockets, or lasers. (If I’m lucky, some of them will even have guns, rockets AND lasers.)

3. The robots will talk, just like they did in the cartoon series. (And at least Optimus Prime will sound like himself.)

4. If we’re lucky, the robots will have some good one-liners. (Robots and aliens usually get the best one-liners, unless the movie stars Bruce Willis or Will Smith.)

5. Lots of things will explode. (If we’re lucky….big, cool robots.)

So let’s review: Transformers is a movie about big, cool talking robots withrockets (and maybe lasers) who blow things up, possibly before or after delivering the kind of one-liners that make puerile audience members whoop and cheer. It will doubtless appeal to the kind of viewerwhose maturity stalled out somewhere between late adolescence and graduate school and who goes to the movies to watch things explode.

I can’t wait.

This is your Monday-to-whenever open trackback post. Link and track back and I’ll try to be better about hardlinking in from the weeds. Linking in:

As to why we are the only nation that has ever used nuclear weapons, there are three reasons:
    1) Because we used them when we had to. That has put the fear of god into many nations.
