Thursday 13: Excuses for Not Mowing the Lawn
1. I might accidentally run over the baby praying mantis (plural) we recently released in the yard.
2. The dandelions are in bloom.
3. It’s too hot to mow. (But not to swim…)
4. I just sweptthefront steps last week, and I’ll get grass clippings all over them.
5. Too busy barbecuing.
6. The mower ran out of gas, and the can is all the way over there by the garage. (Note: this works better when your yard is bigger than 1/3 of an acre.)
7. A bed fell on me. I’m not fully recovered.
8.Do I seehomemade cookies andlemonade?
9. Mowing is so conformist. You just want me to do it because all the neighbors do…
10. The beesprefer the clover high. (I’m not procrastinating, I’mpromoting the honey industry.)
11. We can’t be sure that’s a thistle until it reachesat least 14″ in height.
12. If I mow, I’ll no longer be in the weeds.
13. The lawn looks just fine from any room without a window.

*heh* My fav (of course) is “The dandelions are in bloom.” The only time that doesn’t work for me is when they’re at the puffball stage and I want to “re-seed” (or spread them to the [bad] neighbor’s yard :-)).
But this week, I’m still coasting on, “The City said it’d come by and regrade (and seed) where the Water guys tore my lawn up. Why mow?” (Of course, the supervisor’s been by twice saying “I’ll send ‘em out next week”–the last time just a week ago. *heh* I may just be forced to mow the thing. *sigh*)

Does anyone else think it’s showing off to say “mantis (plural)” rather than going with the simpler, even if incorrect, “mantises.”
Showing off, of course, means demonstrating knowledge of anything I didn’t know…
