Still looking for a way of handling the news that fits our side of the mountain. As usual, I’m not keen on writing much about topics others are already handling well enough without me (unless, of course, I’m feeling enough above myself tothinkI have somethingnew to add to the conversation), but I have readers who come here for news and I don’t want to leave them out either. So … let’s just keep trying different things until we find something that works.
Here’s what’s happening in the world this morning:
On the Democratic Party and the war in Iraq:
Big Lizards points out “It’s Deja Vu all over again” as the Democratic leaders continue to rail about how badly we’ve lost the war and how much we need to pull back and acknowledge defeat. I guess Reid and Murtha’s newest sound bytes are news, though they certainly don’t seem very ‘new’ to me.
Another update on Reid’s latest, with links, at The Jawa Report.
On the Presidential Raceand the Wackies Running in it:
It appears John Edwards is getting ideas about universal health care. Not surprisingly, they involve reducing intellectual property protection for drug companies, increased taxes to the American people, and a general need to stop businesses from being businesses. (Don’t mistake me: I’m all for people being able to afford health care and health insurance. I just think trying to surgically renovate the American health care system with a hammer and sickle isn’t the way to go about it.) The story is at Confederate Yankee.
On IllegalImmigration:
The Bookworm offers some thoughts on solving the immigration problem. They don’t involve amnesty, but (sadly) they also don’t involve my novel idea for a system of trebuchets installed along all borders of the United States.
Sister Toldjah has a relatively long but well written analysis of the Conservative position, the problems with infighting and the reason(s) why a realistic solution to the illegal immigration problem could be very, very hard to find. (Tip of the hornsto Conservatism With Heart.)
Michelle Malkin has an update on the President’s new proposed “addition” to the dead-amnesty bill, which claims to throw a few bones to the “border security” crowd butmay not actually deliver on the promise in the way some of usmight expect.
On Public Alledgeducation:
An athiest is donating $27 million to help fund Catholic school tuition for needy children in New York. If evenathiests without school age childrenare helping send kids to private religious schools, I think we all know what kind of report card the public schools deserve. (Tip of the Horns, Above the Law).
