Thursday 13: Science Fiction Movie Quotes

Filed under: Thursday Thirteen — Random Yak @ 10:45 am on May 31, 2007

Yes, we’ve done variations on this before, but in honor of the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, I’m offering a geeked-out:

Thursday 13: Science Fiction Movie Quotes

(I’ve got the quotes: you give me the movie title in the comments.Extra points if you can also name the character [or actor] who said it. Come on and play, you know you want to.)

1. “Back off man. I’m a scientist.”

2. “What an incredible smell you’ve discovered.”

3. “This is called a neuralyzer. It’s a gift from some friends from out of town. This red eye, here, will isolate the electronic impulses in your brain, more specifically the ones for memory.”

4. “This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.”

5. “You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and you believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland. And, I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”

6. “I’m looking for a planet.” “Lost a planet [deleted name] has. How embarrassing.”

7. “Gozer the Gozerian – good evening. As a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activities and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.”

8. “That’s it man. Game over man, game over!”

9. “If things have gone wrong I’m talking to myself, and you’ve got a wet towel wrapped around your head.”

10. “The sleeper has awakened.”

11. “I’ve had people walk out on me before, but not when I was being so charming.”

12. “It’s not ‘Door to Heaven’ it’s…”

13. “Shall we play a game?”

  1. Well, since I read sci-fi but don’t watch much of it, I’m not in the running in this game. I’ve never seen the whole thing (cos the premise was so utterly beyond suspension of disbelief), but I do recall seeing a blurb once (I think) featuring quote #13: “Joshua”–War Games.

  4. Yep – 13 is Joshua the computer from Wargames.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to do a book-based variation on the trivia for either a Tuesday or T13 post – and I think I may have figured it out (finally). I do a lot more reading than watching myself, but depending on the literary skills of computer users is a lot like depending on the spelling skills of those raised in the spellcheck generation. To use half an old expression, “it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.”
