Washington Post staff writer Roxanne Roberts, well-known contributor to the Post’s “Reliable Source” column, told her National Public Radio audience on the “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” news quiz show Saturday, May 12, that she was invited to a special reception at the British Embassy to meet Queen Elizabeth last week, and that when she came face-to-face with the Queen she turned to the man next to her and remarked, with the brilliant insight and nose for news characteristic of the liberal-left press, that the Queen is “stacked.” Yes, she intended the vulgar slang meaning of “stacked” as having large and attractive breasts. Roberts reportedly made chest-curvature gestures on NPR to make her meaning unmistakeable.

This crass and insulting reference to the now elderly and revered Queen of England passed without comment or rebuke among the host and panelists on “Wait, Wait,” whose theme for the program was relentlessly ridiculing President George Bush for his verbal gaffes, including one they all found exceedingly stupid, in which the President greeted Queen Elizabeth at the White House by making a reference to her prior visit during America’s bicentennial celebration in “17… uh, 1976.” Whether this was a slip of the tongue or a jocular reference to the Queen long reign could not be determined, but when it was mentioned that the President then reportedly “winked” at the Queen, everyone on the NPR program was suitably and delightfully aghast at the President’s etiquette faux pas and roared with disdainful laughter. “He actually winked at the Queen!” Queen’s apparently can have a sense of humor, horrors!

So TRY asks this news quiz question of our own: Who at the Washington Post and NPR will report with the proper and practiced condescending sneer that the best cultured manners their liberal wonkette, Roxanne Roberts, could summon as the Queen’s guest at the British embassy reception was intentionally, not as a slip of the tongue, to comment aloud about the Queen’s breasts to the male British-subject embassy attendant standing next to her, and then to talk about it on national radio?

Yes, the President can garble the Queen’s English, sometimes quite humorously. But it takes a real stalwart liberal intentionally, as a guest in the British embassy, to insult the Queen by commenting on her anatomy as if she were talking about a nubile schoolgirl or a notorious stripper — voiced out of earshot but to her face — and then crassly to report her gauche comment on NPR, not apologetically but as if she thought she had formulated a brilliant bon mot.

I cannot report on the shape of Roxanne Robert’s body, I’ve never seen her, but I can tell you that she has a swelled, and empty, head.
