Monday, December 8: Official “Show and Tell Day at Work.”
Now, for some of us, work is always about show and tell. The clients show what they’ve done…and we tell them what they’ve done wrong. (Kidding. Sometimes we tell them not to admit to it…).
Taking a moment to put the kidding aside: show and tell day?
I think I’m lost on this one. In what universe do we bring items to work for show and tell? And what color is the sky in a world where co-workers sit and listen to you describe your favorite slippers? (Don’t ask me what we do to teddy bears around here. You won’t like the response.)
I can accept that the American workplace has largely taken leave of its senses. I can agree withremoving truly offensive and inappropriate humor. I can go along withextending a certain amount of extra courtesyto prevent harassment and hostile environments in the workplace. I can even(momentarily) keep from poking too much fun of policiesbanning cinnamon rolls on the off chance someone might accidentally offend the oversensitive by calling them “nice buns.”
But show and tell??
There’s gotta be a pony in there somewhere.
