We are proud to present theYak of the Week Award for Tolerance and Cultural Sensitivity to Rosie “Ching Chong” O’Donnell, forrecent statements on “The View” andan even more recent nonapology, which taken together provide us a shining example of what it means to beequidistant from reality, tolerance and your professed worldview. (Equidistance hat trick for the win.)

On the December 5 episode of “The View” (No, I’ve never seen it. I value my remaining brain cells too highly to subject them to that kind of torturous, premature death) Rosie O’Donnell commented that Danny DeVito’s recent drunken appearance on the show had made news the world over. Not satisfied with merely stating the irrelevant andobvious, the alleged comedienne went on to say, “You know, you can imagine in China it’s like ‘ching chong, ching chong chong, Danny DeVito, ching chong chong chong, drunk, “The View,” ching chong.”

(Bear in mind, this is the same person who recently commented that evangelical Christianity was “as dangerous as fundamentalist Islam” to the American way of life.)

When confronted by an angry group of journalists and Asians (none of whom, incidentally, said “Ching Chong”) Rosie responded with a comment that she “didn’t know” imitating Chinese by saying “Ching Chong” was offensiveand that she was sorry “for those people who felt hurt or teased on the playground” but that she was likely to be offensive again because “that’s how my mind works.”

Nice.

Let’s see what we can learn from this little sequence of events.

1. Left wing people are always tolerant. Even when they’re not.

2. Calling Chinese people “ching chong” would only offend those who were teased on the playground as children (and they were losers anyway, right?)

3. If tolerant people don’t know they’re being offensive, then it’s not really offensive and you shouldn’t be offended. (You should only be offended by offensive people – like conservatives and Christians.)

4. Letting people know you’re going to be offensive again makes it all okay. Besides, it’s not actually “offensive” if that’s just how your mind works.

And so:

- For demonstrating equidistance from cultural sensitivity and the (loudly proclaimed) worldview that everyone should be treated equally and with respect;

- For showing the world that some people’s tolerance is only nationality deep;

- Forapologizing with all the depth and sincerity of a rain puddle in August;

- For a shining example ofwhy celebrities should stick to speakingwordsmore qualified people actually wrote;

and

- Forteaching us that, whereMoonbats are concerned,we must “do as I say, not as I say”
