Given that – at least from what you can tell from my blog – yesterdaydidn’t exist, here’s your Monday Tuesday frivol, warmed-over but still fresh enough to make you ponder the true meaning of “Lost in Translation.”
In Wales, road signs often appear intwo languages:English and Welsh. As anyone familiar with translation would imagine, errors do happen from time to time. And this time theVale of GlamorganCouncil hasmade themselvesa doozy. A temporary road sign between Penarth and Cardiff reads (in English): “Cyclists Dismount” – a standard warning to prevent injury tobicycle ridersapproachingroad work in the area. Unfortunately, the Welsh translation which follows, “Llid y bledren dymchwelyd,” leaves approaching cyclists with quite a different impression of the problem. You see, “Llid y bledren dymchwelyd,”(although technically nonsense) apparently carriesthe meaning “Bladder disease has returned.”
Which suggests an entirely different reason to get off the bike.
The highwaydepartmenthas apparently”admittedthatthey made a mistake.”
You don’t say.
I could respond to this one in several ways, but I think I’ll go with the tried and true: “All your whoops are belong to us.”
And yep, this is yourMidweek Open Trackback post, now until Thursday night.
Conlige suspectos semper habitos (Round up the usual suspects) and let’s get things going.

As one who has stopped riding in deference to his prostate (until a new, more accomodating seat can be found), I’d say the mistrtanslation has some merit…
But that’s just the way it looks from where I sit.

At a minimum, it’s going to slow them down, for sure. Kind of like the decision to type one-handed until the wrist heals because “work through it”…well…didn’t.
