Word Problem Weekend OTB

Filed under: Random Linkfests — Random Yak @ 1:51 pm on September 22, 2006

Yak the Younger is studying word problems in math. It seemed only fair that the rest of us follow suit – or at least be prepared to offer our own take. (OK, that, and I needed something relatively interesting to lead into the weekend OTB). In honor of the occasion, I am formally declaring this “Word Problem Weekend.”

Here are your Word Problems for the Weekend: (answer in the comments, or feel free to post your own word problems and link in, adding to the fun):

1. How many lightbulbs does it take to screw up a moonbat?

2. If a Yakordinarily types110 words per minute in two-hour increments, butsprains its wrist rescuing orphans from a Zamboni and thereafter types only 50 words per minute at ten minute increments, how long will it take the wrist to heal?

3. A train leaves Chicago heading South at87 miles per hour. Another train leaves Los Angelesheading West at93 mph. How many people discovered the true problembefore getting to the end of this sentence?

4. How many snakes can dance on the head of a plane?

5. If a moonbat leaves San Diego and walks south at 3 mph, how long will it take to reach the Mexican border?

6. If one Yak works from home at a basic efficiency of 80%, and another Yak works alone at the office at a basic efficiency of 32%, and given that the approximate efficiency level of two Yaks functioning within the same space is 68%, how much would overall Yak efficiency rise if the home-based Yak actually came into the office? (Hint: do not succumb to the logical fallacy which suggests all Yaks work at equal levels of efficiency.)

Bonus QuestionIf 4% of bloggers host weekend linkfests, and 0.5% of bloggers promote their linkfests at Linkfest Haven, but 22% of bloggers link to linkfests posted at Linkfest Haven…will I make the honor roll next week?

This is your weekend linkfest. Link to this post and track it back all weekend long, and I’ll add you in above the fold periodically between now and Sunday night. As always, The Rules of The Blog apply.
