Save Your Smile Week (Observance and OTP)

Filed under: Random Linkfests, Random Observances — Random Yak @ 7:57 am on August 21, 2006

Unbeknownst to me, August 20-26was designated official “Save Your Smile” week.

And here I was, giving them away for free like it was going out of style (which apparently it was). Should have known better. Smiles don’t grow on trees, you know. And the people you offer them to actually do take them – and, from what I can tell, mostrecipients use them immediately.

The observance came with insufficient directions, so I’m not sure whatwe’re supposed to be savingsmiles for, or even how longwe can savethem beforethey expire andwe need to start workingonnew ones. No directions to the smile bank, no instructions for safe home storage. Nota word of explanation as to how one prevents the stored smiles frombreaking free and wreaking havoc in the Home Depot (No, really, it wasn’t me…it was the smiles. You just missed them – theytook offdown aisle 8).

Is there aspendthrift clause out there somewhere that someone can invoke to stop ustossing them about? And just exactly what happens ifwe squandersmiles this week?

Will large men in dark glasses suddenly leap from the closet with rolls of tape?

Will your third-grade teacher (you remember:thelarge womanwith the electric blue eyeshadow) suddenly materialize behind you, waving her ruler and shouting “Would you like to sharethe jokewith the rest of the class?” (Painfully learned hint to the wise: “yes” isn’t the right answer to that question.)

One thing seems clear: this is too complicated for a simple yak. I don’t think I’m capable of savingsmiles for a single day – let alone a week. So save ‘em if you want to – but it’s business as usual on my side of the mountain, which of course means

Smile ‘em if you got ‘em. Or even if you don’t.

Link ‘em if you got ‘em, too. This is your Monday-Wednesday Open Trackback Post. Open Trackbacks now through Wednesday night. Linked as always to Linkfest Haven and pinged to the Open Trackback Festival at The Conservative Cat.
