Showcase Carnival: Holiday Survivor Edition

Filed under: Random Carnivals — Random Yak @ 5:30 am on July 10, 2006

Given that last week contained not only a holiday but a Tuesday holiday, it appears not many new blogs managed to outplay, outwit and outlast the temptation to take a few days off and enjoy the summer.

That, of course, means that today’s edition of the Showcase Carnival has fewer entries than normal. Which also means that you have no excuse for not visiting them all. (HAH – bet you didn’t see that one coming. I’ve got you now…).

Towards Better Life appears dedicated to helping readers improve their quality of life. (I’m sure that comes as a shock.) Better quality of life, you’ll notice, doesn’t take the summer off.

A fairly unusual entry from the less-than-staunchly-conservative side of the blogosphere brings us Humantide. This week’s entry, descriptively titled “How to build a community campaigning blog,” offers help to those interested in building community support for a local issue.

The same blogger also writes the Save The Ribble Blog – in an effort to raise awareness and help conserve the River Ribble (UK). It’s a light submission week so I’m offering a link to the Ribble Blog too.

And since we had so few regular submissions, I thought I’d poke the shaggy muzzle in at a couple former entrants, just to see how things are bloggin’ along and who’s managed to survive those rocky first few weeks at the keys. Here’s what I found:

The Inadvertent Gardener has been growing like a weed. (Sometimes I kill me…). Saturday’s entry offers a recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes (with photos and some interesting anecdotes).

The Scratching Post has not only survived, but joined The Alliance. The Kim Jong Il post may interest some, but I was more drawn to the post titled “Stop Messing With My Favorite Brands.” (Does Nestle really have to ask why the mango-flavored Kit-Kat Bar didn’t make it?? On second thought – did they even have to produce them to figure this out?).

I could report on a few more, but frankly, I don’t think I’m going to find a better parting-shot mental image than the mango Kit-Kat bar.

Remember: A blog written in a forest, with no one around to read it, does still make a sound. But it sounds much better when the rest of us know about it.

Submission information is available at the Showcase Carnival website and through the multi-carnival submission form at The Conservative Cat (submit to Showcase Carnival). But you really only need to remember three things: 1. It’s your blog. 2. It’s less than 3 months old. 3. Come back and read Random Yak every day.

Ok, maybe I made that third one up.

But remember to stop by the carnival as it makes the rounds. Last week, the carnival pitched tents at Dave’s Not Here. Next week you’ll find the celebration over at Grill Maestro. The 24th will see the carnival over at Jack Yoest’s blog – and the 31st belongs to my good friend(s) Pet (and Tigger, and TMOTU) over at Pet’s Garden Blog. Then more stop at Dave’s Not Here and finally back again to my side of the mountain on August 14. Hope to see you here!
