I Never Said I Wanted to See it All.

Filed under: Just Yaks — Random Yak @ 4:33 pm on June 18, 2007

Ever heard anyone say, “Now I’ve seen it all”?

Well, you’re now hearing me say: “Not only haven’t I seen it all – I don’t want to.”

I’m always getting spam “comments” and “trackbacks” for all kinds of *cough* interesting websites, most of which travel from the “hold” queue to the “delete” list with little time and less thought. Until today, when I happened to notice not one but a dozen spam trackbacks for a website featuring “nancy pelosi naked.”

Which just goes to prove, there really are things we’re better off not knowing. Or thinking about.

And there really is nothing more evil than a spammer with a good imagination.

Father’s Day With the Silver Surfer

Filed under: Just Yaks — Random Yak @ 11:45 am on

Went to Southern California over the weekend, primarily to celebrate The Random Mother’s birthday. We had to drive home Sunday (Happy Father’s Day! You win … 7 hours in the car!) and in the interest of maximizing time spent with both families, we saw my folks on Friday night and The Random In-Laws on Saturday evening.

Sitting at The Random In-Laws’ house Saturday night, looking forward to seven hours in the car the following morning, we decided to celebrate Father’s Day a little early by taking The Random Father-in-Law to the movies. (Like that one? Everybody wins.) Two hours later, we’re sitting in a theater, surrounded by popcorn, candy and sodas which wouldn’t be on my diet but for the fact thatI can’t possibly let The Random Spouse and The Random Father-in-Law eat all that stuff alone. (They’d only feel badly about it afterward, and my righteous abstinence would make them feel worse … so of course I took one for the team.)

And what, pray tell, did we see?

Rise of the Silver Surfer, of course.

Which of course means you’re gettingmy review.

I liked it.

And below the fold, I’ll tell you why. (more…)

It’s Monday, and I’m in the weeds again, but not so far in that I can’t give you a few recommendations for your Monday reading list:

The Conservative Cat has a helpful map and explanation of the current developments in and around Israel.

The newest trend in Modern (cough) art? Dog Art.Full story at Moonbattery – and for the record, I think the dog is a better modern artist than most of the allegedly talented and famous humans I’ve seen. But then, maybe it’s just me.

Bookworm Room takes a look at NYT journalismand the recent story of Afghan children killed in a U.S. airstrike. Don’t get dizzy from the spin.

Monday Morning Imponderable: Harry (“the Hoarse”) Reid

The imponderable question of the day, and the question every day for the residents of that gambling-desert state onNorthern California’s eastern border, is:

What possessed the people of Nevada to elect Harry Reid to the Senate?

We can gawk and exclaim and complain and remonstrate about Senator Reid ad nauseum (a state of stomach upset easily achieved when listening to Harry the Hoarse) but there will never be a solution to the problem until we can discover what possessed the people of Nevada to vote for him.

Does everyone in Nevada always try to beat the odds, to vote for a loser hoping he will turn into a winner? It makes you wonder whether Nevada was one time a wet and green oasis and it only became a desert due to bad choices by its residents, because that’s what’s going to happen to America if Harry the Horseless Head-man gets his way in the Senate.
